Bed Bug Bite Symptoms

Here you can read more about bed bug bite symptoms. It is very important to know the difference between the bites of bed bugs and those of other insects. Bed bugs usually live in mattresses and other parts of furniture. They feed on our blood and sometimes these bites can become very bad looking. They are different form tick bites or mosquito bites.

What Are the Symptoms of Bed Bug Bites?

The rash is one of the common symptoms. It doesn’t actually occur right away, so if you get bitten, you will not notice it right away. Bed bug rash usually appears on one’s skin after a period of one week. Bed bug rash looks like a group of red bumps and it is very itchy. Do not scratch your skin, since that can lead to inflammation and further infection. This rash usually occurs on the neck, legs, arms and shoulders. It can affect other body parts, too, but these are the commonly affected areas.

The worst thing here is that you can develop a kind of allergies. In that case, your skin can become extremely irritated and itchy. These cases are rare, but they are possible. As we said, the rash is usually the only symptom that indicates bed bugs. Some people, however, do not experience skin rash. They can have a bite mark and it can easily go unnoticed. Some people just ignore the bite, believing it is just a mosquito bite – and the bite heals, without any skin irritation at all.

There are ways to prevent bed bug bites. First, you should take care of your house and furniture, especially beds. You can call a specialized company to clean your house and mattresses. You can also visit your dermatologist and get the right product to use on your skin in order to prevent bed bugs bites. Most of these products are sold as lotions that are applied onto one’s skin before going to bed. That will keep you safe during the night, since bed bugs are active at night.

Your sheets must always be clean, so as your mattresses and other furniture in the house. If you notice a bite on your skin or on your child’s skin, do something to prevent this from happening again. If the bite develops into bed bugs rash, visit your dermatologist to get a proper treatment.

  2. I think I have bed bug bite symptoms. This itchy skin rash has been there for over a week. I thought I was allergic to something, but I wasn’t. I even stopped eating eggs and strawberries, thinking it might be an allergy to foods. But the rash was still there. So I went to see a dermatologist. I was frightened because I have never had anything alike! I don’t even have any pets, so I was confused. Even my friends don’t keep pets, so I knew there was no way to get anything from animals. When my doctor told me it was bed bugs rash, I couldn’t believe. That was the last thing on my mind. I thought that these bugs are just a kind of story for kids. I didn’t even know that they really exist. When I started looking for some info on the web, I realized that many people have them.

  4. @ Jeni:

Yes, this kind of rash is commonly seen in people who have been bitten by bed bugs. My kid was bitten, so I started looking for bed bug bite symptoms on the web and I got here. I see that my kid has this specific rash and it is getting itchy day by day. I went to a dermatologist, because I was too worries. He told me that there was nothing to worry about, because the rash would go away in a week or two. This was exactly what happened. The rash subsided without any particular treatment. So, if you are a bit frightened, don’t be – if you really have bed bug bites, they will subside in a week or so. You can use some natural essential oils to reduce the skin irritation. Just don’t scratch the skin! I was having a hard time trying to explain to my kid that he shouldn’t scratch the skin.

  6. I was bitten a month ago and I had these small bumps. I’ve heard from other people that some of them had rashes and skin irritation. I did not have such problems; I only had several bumps on my forearm, and that was it! However, I searched for more info on bed bugs, and I found very similar information in several places – bed bugs can cause skin irritation, and if you scratch it, your skin can get inflamed. So, itchy bumps on the upper body parts are the symptoms. The problem is that one average person cannot recognize bed bug bites. Most people (including me) think that it is some kind of skin allergy.

  8. once a month for the last 3 months, i have woken up with 2 small flat bumps either on my ankle or on my hand. they always seem like they’re spaced about a 1/2 inch apart. they don’t itch and they have scabbed over by the time i notice them. they disappear in a few days. could this just be a spider bite?
