How Dangerous Is a Bed Bug Bite

How dangerous is a bed bug bite? These bugs live in your bed, carpets and other furniture. They are active during the night and they feed on the blood of humans and animals. Their bites can sometimes be very itchy and annoying, and this can last for two or three weeks. Now, people are often unaware that they have been bitten by a bed bug; they mostly believe that it is an allergy. However, these marks look different from shin rashes. They are grouped together and they look like red bumps on your skin.

Are Bed Bug Bites Dangerous?

Bed bug bites are certainly annoying, but they are not too dangerous. However, you must not scratch your skin, because it can leave scars. If your kid has been bitten, try explaining that he/she must not scratch the bites because scratching can cause skin infections and scarring. As you can see, these bites can lead to skin irritation and infection, but only if you scratch them. This can particularly bad if the bites are on your face, so you can scratch them in your sleep. What can you do to calm the skin? Before you go to bed, apply some nourishing cream or lotion to your skin and leave it overnight. If the bites are on your face, avoid makeup products, especially powders. Let your skin breathe and avoid oily creams.

How to Get Rid of Bed Bugs

If you (or other members of your family) have been bitten, you will have to take up some steps in getting rid of these annoying insects. Your house hygiene is extremely important in bed bugs prevention. Regular vacuuming will keep them away. You can call professional cleaners. They will come and do the carpet cleaning and furniture vacuuming. They use powerful equipment, so you will be safe for some time. However, you must maintain the house hygiene regularly.

You should remove your old furniture form the house. If you store any old furniture, move it to some other place. Bed bugs love old furniture because they can breed there, without being interrupted.

Visit your dermatologist and ask for some advice on skin care. If you have bite marks on your skin, you can use some lotions and creams to calm the irritated skin. Your dermatologist can give you some effective ointments or creams to use before going to bed. These will keep you safe during the night and prevent bed bugs from biting you.

  2. I had the same problem. I got real panicked when I saw this on my face. I thought this was some kind of allergy or even a skin disease! I had no idea what to do. It started itching and I didn’t know what to do to make it stop! It lasted about a week or so, and then it started calming. But I still went to see my doctor and he told me those bites came from bed bugs! But, what are these bugs and how dangerous is a bed bug bite?? I was horrified, because I had no idea whether these bugs were dangerous. What is worse, I had no idea how to get rid of them. I assumed that they were numerous and I thought that they would never leave my house. I started washing the bedclothes and vacuuming every day!. Then I tried with some chemicals. It seemed to be working. However, the rash subsided and I was OK. So, I think that bed bug bites are not too dangerous.

  4. I don’t think they’re too dangerous. As far as I know, these bites are itchy and irritating, but they are not too dangerous. Perhaps what’s dangerous about these bite marks is that they can be infected. This is what happens when you scratch the skin. And there is another thing. People sometimes get bitten by fleas, and they thing those are just bed bug bites. So, they leave the rash untreated. We know that fleabites can be very dangerous. Fleas can transmit various diseases. If you don’t treat fleabites, they can get worse and make other problems. So, knowing the difference between bed bug bites and fleabites is crucial.

I know this, because I have been bitten by fleas and I thought those were just bed bugs. I left the rash untreated and then I started getting more problems. Finally, I went to see my doctor and he told me that these bites came from fleas. I was lucky to start treating this in time.

  6. I had bed bug a few months ago. At first I thought that I had flea bites but when I researched it turned out to get bed bugs. My husband was also bitten a few times and in a space of a few months my bites were getting worse. I looked online at what I can do to stop them but in the end I decided to call out an exterminator to quickly get rid of them.

  8. Well, I don’t think they are too dangerous. I have never had this kind of infestation, so I cannot judge, but based on what I have heard, these bugs are not as dangerous as we believe. They are ugly and they do suck blood, but they can’t give you any disease, which is the most important thing in the whole story. I see that people often freak out when they only hear the word “bedbug”, but it is not so bad, really! I mean, take fleas or ticks! These are dangerous, especially ticks. They can really harm you! Many animals die because of ticks and fleas, but I have never heard of an animal dying of bedbug bites. I think that the worst thing you can get is skin rash, but even that can be treated in several days, leaving no problems at all. Pest control companies make a lot of money using people’s fear and ignorance, so the whole story of bedbugs seems to me like manipulation. Perhaps I am wrong, but that’s just how I feel about this….
