How to Stop the Itch of Bed Bug Bites

If you are wondering how to stop the itch of bed bug bites, read our article to find out. Bed bug bites can be very irritating and itchy. If you scratch the bites, you can easily irritate your skin and cause skin infections and inflammation. You can even cause some scarring, especially if you have sensitive skin. Sometimes it is hard not to scratch the spot, especially during your sleep. If your child has been bitten by a bed bug, it can be very hard to explain him/her that he/she must not scratch the bite marks. You should not blame your kids for scratching the bite marks, since these really are very itchy.

How to Stop Scratching Your Skin

We know how irritating these bites can be, especially if they are on your face. However, you must not scratch them! You can irritate your skin even more and cause skin infections. If you want to calm your skin, you can visit your dermatologist to get some soothing lotion or cream. Do not use any skin care products on your own. Your dermatologist will give you the right skin care product, suitable for your skin type.

You can use various natural remedies, ointments and creams. However, you should avoid oily skin care products and make up. Do not use powders and foundations for some time. These can only irritate your skin and prevent it from “breathing”.

How to Prevent Bed Bug Bites

You can visit your dermatologist and ask for some advice on bed bug bites prevention. You can buy various lotions and creams, suitable for your skin type. These skin care products are used before going to bed, so you will be quite safe during the night.

Some home remedies are great for soothing irritated skin. Mint and lavender can relieve the irritation.

If you want to prevent these insects from invading your house, you will have to vacuum the house regularly. Clean all rooms, even those you don’t use. Get rid of your old furniture. Old beds you store in the house are ideal environment for the bed bugs to reproduce.

You can use chemicals designed for these purposes. However, you must ask a professional for some advice on which product to use. Some of these products can harm your pets or cause allergic reaction in children and adults. Some chemicals are considered harmless and quite safe for use; nevertheless, keep them away form children and pets.

  2. I have some experience to share. Actually, my kid had a problem with itchy bite marks. She was scratching her skin all the time. I couldn’t explain that it was a bad thing to do, since she is still a kid and never listens to what I say. So her skin got very irritated, especially on her face. I was desperate and didn’t know what to do. So I tried some cantarion oil. It was helpful. I knew this oil had some calming properties, so I just put it on her skin and she stopped scratching the face and neck. Perhaps cantarion can help you, too. Lavender is also good for these purposes. I don’t know if it will help you, but it will not harm you, that’s for sure. Also, both lavender and cantarion have very pleasant smell, so they will not irritate you. Kids are especially difficult to control when it comes to scratching. I was desperate!

  4. Sometimes, you can do nothing to stop the itchy feeling. If you are an adult, you will be able to control yourself, but if you have a child, try explaining that he/she must not scratch the skin! You’ll see that this is not easy at all. Kids forget about this and they scratch the skin when you can’t see them. Sometimes we all scratch the skin in our sleep. However, perhaps some home remedies can help. Essential oils are great for soothing the skin. Lavender should help you calm the skin. I think that someone here has written about lavender oil and its effect on irritated skin. Perhaps some creams could be helpful to stop infections. Itching is annoying, but it can cause an infection, too – which is the main reason for stopping it. If you have bed bug bites on your face, it can be real bad if your face skin gets irritated.

  6. Well, if you have ever been bitten, then you know how itchy it is. I had this problem, and my skin was really irritated, but my husband did not have any itchiness. He seemed to be perfectly fine, while I was having a real problem with my face. I had this rash on my left cheek and it was really giving me a hard time for days. In fact, it took me two weeks to recover. I did not have any serious skin irritation (thank God), but I did have that horrible itchiness that wouldn’t let me sleep. I used calamine lotion, olive oil and antibact. soap. My husband was also bitten at the time, but his skin simply was not that sensitive, so he got away without any problems whatsoever. I did not want to make a big deal out of it, but when I read that some people had scars on their faces, I panicked. I went to my dermatologist and asked her to help me treat the bites. She said there was nothing to worry about, because these bites could not give me any kind of infection. However, we did have to treat the house for bed bugs and this was the most painful part of the story. We had to pay for the company’s services and it was not cheap at all. The house is not so small, and we had to treat every single room, including the kitchen, and two bathrooms. For me, it was more important to clean the kids’ room, but I have read that these bugs can invade the entire house, so I just told them to clean up everything!
